Character Design Series – Pop Art
These four character designs are based on Joe Hill’s short story Pop Art, which follows the unlikely friendship between a troubled boy and his inflatable, silent best friend, Art. The designs reflect the story’s blend of melancholy, imagination, and emotional connection, bringing its unique characters to life through visual interpretation.
Illustration Series – Cathay
This collection of four digital illustrations is inspired by Steven Millhauser’s short story Cathay. Each piece draws from the story’s vivid and fantastical imagery, using a watercolor-like texture to evoke the dreamlike, otherworldly atmosphere that defines the narrative.
Modern Love
Inspired by the New York Times Modern Love essay My 11-Year Relationship That Never Happened, this illustration plays with the story’s themes of imagined intimacy and delusion. Conversation hearts are reimagined as anti-psychotic pills, creating a kitschy yet poignant visual that reflects the surreal, bittersweet nature of a decade-long episode.
Depth of Field Study – Black & White
This black-and-white illustration was created as an exercise in practicing depth of field without the use of color. Through contrast, line weight, and value, the piece explores how spatial relationships and focal points can be effectively conveyed using only monochrome elements.
